Due to an unforseen lack of good internet cafes in the semiremote parts of the Philippines, I have not been able to update the blog.
But don’t dispair!
This space will not remain empty for ever … I have big BIG ENOURMOUS ideas for this … and it all starts with a simple recognition that this is a public space.
Even this.

Naturally my first few comments are going to be about food. Plane food, oriental vegetarian… need I say more. I had a stop over in Singapore airport for like 4 hours which was rather pleasant, spent most of th etime switching from walking between terminals, playing on the free PS3 to the free Xbox, to eventually deciding to buy a plate of actually very nice italian arrabiatta pasta. (yes I know thats not spelt correctly..)
Arrived at the hotel after being somewhat ripped off by the taxi, a full 300 peso I paid him! But I was greeted by my friends who had arrived not long before and were just waitin at the front desk to go out to the 7 11 across the road for a beer. (The typical engineering thing to do.)
The rest of the night was spent tiredly, exhaustadly discussing the terrors of th first day, and the hilarity of the new word for credit, “load.” Tim even wanted to know if I had brought a “spork and foon” with me… which luckily I had, although it wasn’t actually entirely necessary.
So to day actually number one, as in right now. Breakfast, oh how I miss my wheetbix and milo and milk. Milk just isn’t the same, infact cows are fairly rare in the philippines, and like most of asia, rice features in all meals.
The rest of today has so far been spent in a shopping centre called Megamall, where we found a Maccas imitation called Jollibee. Its like exactly maccas with a few chicken dishes stolen straight from KFC, even down to the colour scheme, although a nice new addition was the fact that the lady at the counter said in a very kwikimart fashion “Thankyou, come again.”
Ok thats all for now. more to come soon.
Missing you all heaps already. And yes, I have started to take some photos.

It is 10 days till I head to the Philippines, and it is here that I welcome you all to my new travel blog. I am traveling with Engineers Without Borders to work with Gawad Kalinga, Rotary, Habitat for Humanity, Asia Development Bank and more to build houses and generally get an experience of Aid and development work in situ. Should be heaps of fun.
New style of blogging … KISS. There will be more soon.
